Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], September 5: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday paid tribute to former President, educationist, and philosopher Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary by offering flowers to his portrait at the Chief Minister's residence.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister also extended his wishes to all teachers on the celebration of Teacher's Day, stating that teachers are the true nation-builders.

"Teachers play a vital role in shaping the character of students and making them responsible citizens. They not only contribute to nation-building through education but also play a significant role in guiding society in the right direction," said CM Dhami.

He further highlighted the important role teachers play in the effective implementation of the state government's education development initiatives.

The Chief Minister emphasized that only those countries and societies advance where teachers are held in high regard.

"We must further strengthen the great Indian tradition of respecting and honoring our teachers," he added.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister urged students to uphold the Indian tradition of showing respect and reverence toward teachers and contribute to the country's and state's progress by becoming exemplary citizens.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his Teachers' Day greetings, expressing "gratitude to all teachers who shape young minds."

The Prime Minister also paid tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary.

In a post on 'X', the PM said, "Best wishes on #TeachersDay, a day to express gratitude to all teachers who shape young minds. Tributes to Dr. Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary."

Teachers' Day is celebrated annually on September 5 to honor teachers and their role in shaping students' lives. The day also marks the birth anniversary of scholar and Bharat Ratna recipient Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, born on this day in 1888. He served as the first Vice President of independent India (1952-1962) and later as the second President from 1962 to 1967.
