Shillong, Meghalaya, October 25 – The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully thwarted a smuggling attempt in Meghalaya on Friday, seizing contraband valued at Rs 12 lakh. The operation led to the recovery of 12 cartons of Skin Shine ointment cream along the international border.
According to a statement from BSF officials, the troops from the 4th Battalion conducted a special operation based on specific intelligence near the international border, where they discovered the cosmetics hidden in a jungle area, intended for smuggling into Bangladesh.
The confiscated items have been handed over to the Customs office at Pynursla for further action.
Earlier on Wednesday, the BSF had intercepted another significant smuggling attempt, seizing contraband valued at Rs 16 lakh along the Meghalaya border. This operation was triggered by alerts regarding cattle smuggling across the border.
BSF personnel stationed in Meghalaya, part of the 4th Battalion, conducted special operations to combat cross-border smuggling. During these efforts, they rescued 27 cattle hidden in a jungle area near the border, which were also intended for smuggling into Bangladesh. The rescued cattle were handed over to the PPP Muktapur initiative for further action. This initiative aims to ensure safety during celebrations in the border region.
In addition, the BSF stopped a pickup vehicle (numbered "ML-05-AC") loaded with cosmetic products lacking valid documentation near the border in the East Khasi Hills district. Other operations along the border area resulted in the seizure of a considerable amount of edible goods and liquor. Earlier, on October 22, BSF troops from the 193 Battalion intercepted a Bolero pickup truck and confiscated cosmetic items valued at over Rs 4 lakh near the international border in the East Khasi Hills district.
In another operation on Wednesday, alert personnel from the 4th Battalion BSF Meghalaya rescued 27 heads of cattle valued at Rs 2,85,400 that were being smuggled into Bangladesh through the international border in the West Jaintia Hills district.
