Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], October 3: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Dasoju Sravan criticized Telangana Minister Konda Surekha for her "derogatory" remarks involving BRS leader KT Rama Rao, actors Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Naga Chaitanya. Sravan strongly asserted that Surekha "has no business continuing as a minister even for a second" in the state cabinet.
He also called on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to take immediate action, urging her removal from the Telangana cabinet. In his statement, Sravan expressed, "Her comments are absolutely defamatory and derogatory. Civil society must condemn this. She has no right to continue as a minister after making such offensive remarks against women, the film industry, and specifically targeting our leader KTR."
Further condemning Surekha's statements, Sravan said, "The comments she made are punishable. Either she’s lunatic or mentally unwell, or she has a perverted mindset to create unnecessary political controversies and stay in the limelight." He compared her subsequent withdrawal of the remarks to a harmful act, saying, "It's like stabbing someone and then removing the knife. Words can wound deeper than a blade." This echoes the age-old adage, "Words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts," a quote from Patrick Rothfuss, illustrating the impact careless words can have.
Sravan called for "decent politics" and urged Rahul Gandhi to take swift action, setting the right example by removing her from her position.
Meanwhile, BRS Women Corporators filed a formal complaint against Konda Surekha at Banjara Hills police station over her controversial remarks about KTR.
The controversy began when Surekha linked KT Rama Rao to the divorce of actors Samantha and Naga Chaitanya, accusing him of phone tapping and blackmail. She alleged, "It is KT Rama Rao because of whom Samantha's divorce happened... He used to tap the phones of actresses and blackmail them." These claims were met with widespread backlash, including from Naga Chaitanya’s father, actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, who condemned her remarks and urged her to respect the privacy of others, saying, "People’s personal lives should not be dragged into political mudslinging."
Samantha also reacted, stating that her divorce is a "personal matter," highlighting the importance of maintaining boundaries when it comes to personal lives.
Konda Surekha later clarified her comments, claiming they were intended to highlight KT Rama Rao's alleged disrespect toward women, not to hurt Samantha’s sentiments. She added that she would retract her remarks "unconditionally" if they offended Samantha or her fans.
